Aberlour was the first distillery that KWA visited, on the first official journey, and what a start! Located in the village of Aberlour in the middle of the Speyside area, surrounded by the dramatic Highland scenery of Ben Rinnes where the Lour burn joins the River Spey, .
Aberlour was founded in 1826 by James Gordon, but it was probably active before this date. The distillery was transferred to its current location by James Flemming in 1879. Aberlour distillery area is a homey jumble of small buildings. Since 1975 Aberlour is owned by Pernod Ricard.
When KWA visited Aberlour we booked the “Experience Tour”. The tour started with a video about Aberlour and whisky making. After the video we had a walk around the distillery and finally devoted some time to an excellent tasting, which consisted of five drams with Aberlour malts and one dram of “White dog”. The tour and the tasting were presented to us by the very professional guide Mabel.
