At the 12th of august 2015 KWA went to Gammalsbygården at Gammalsby on Öland for a BOX whisky tasting.
BOX is one of the newly established distilleries in Sweden and maybe that one that has been proceeding with the best advance assessments. The tasting we were booked on was a tasting with five different BOX whisky’s (or soon whisky) and it was led by “Hasse Nilsson” senior brand ambassador for BOX Distillery. Hasse is one of the person with most knowledge about whisky in Sweden and he is also a person who knows how to tell a story in an entertaining way. So it was not without expectations we went over the bridge for the tasting this lovely summer evening. Before we start whit the BOX tasting we got an opener from “Christer” host at Gammalsbygården it was a Glenrothes 8yo Provenance (2004-2012) from The Mc Gibbons, a good start indeed, sweet and mellow for its age with distinct sherry notes. Meanwhile we were sipping at the Glenrothes Hasse were tell us about the history of whisky making in Sweden. After this lesson it was time the BOX whiskies.

- BOX Bourbon Cask
- BOX The Festival 2014
KWA´s first favorite was “BOX Bourbon Cask”
Cask sample, a very tasteful whisky with flavors of Vanilla, apple and sweet almond.
KWA´s second favorite was “BOX Försmak” a sherry whisky with parts of tar and smoke and it reminds some of Lagavulin 16.
After these tastings we must say that BOX and Gammalsbygården more than well meet our expectations for these evening. So thanks from all at KWA to Hasse at BOX and Christer at Gammalsbygården for a remember able evening.
BOX is probably going to be Sweden’s biggest name in the Malt Whisky world the coming years.
