In 2012 KWA visited Lagavulin. Lagavulin is located at the Lagavulin bay on the south coast of Islay. The area around the bay once was a paradise for smugglers. In the middle of the 1700 there were at least ten illicit distilleries around the bay. So the area is holy ground for whisky lovers.

It is said that Lagavulin was founded in 1816 by John Johnston. In 1924 it changed its name to White Horse Distillers Ltd. Since 1997 Lagavulin is owned by Diageo.

When KWA visited Lagavulin we booked the “Premium Tasting” completed with the “Distillery Tour”. The tasting took place in a fantastic scene, a room with old furniture where you could feel the history of the place. The tasting consisted of five drams with different malts and one dram of “White dog”. The tasting and the subsequent “Distillery Tour” were presented by our guide Marjory who directed us in a very pleasant way.
